How to release the parachute in battlefield 1943(ps3)?

I read something about a parachute in Battlefield 1943, but how could I use it? should I jump out of a plane?How to release the parachute in battlefield 1943(ps3)?
When you are flying the plane, clck O to jump out, and while falling click X. Youll see a little parachute icon on the bottom of your screen meaning you are using it. Plus you will be falling much slower.



And you can move around while falling. Like point the left analog stick in the direction you wanna fall and youll slowly go there.



Btw I think you can use the parachute off large falls as well. Like jumping off a lighthouse and clicking X will open it up.How to release the parachute in battlefield 1943(ps3)?
